About Our Speaker:
Ben Janzen, PhD, Theologian, Lecturer, Philosopher, Spiritual and Religious Leader, Team Chaplain and Bereavement Services Manager

Ben Janzen, PhD. grew up in Germany as the youngest of three. He was a member of the Catholic Order of the Franciscan Capuchins where he got his theological training. From 1997 until 2000, he worked as a lecturer after having finished his doctorate in systematic theology and comparative religions. In 2000, he came to the US to pursue studies on Spirituality in Science Fiction, especially Star Trek, which he finished with a Ph.D. in 2006.

Ben has been working as a hospice Chaplain since 2010 and as a bereavement manager since 2015. Having completed 6 units of CPE, passed the exam to be an Advanced Practice Board Certified Chaplain with the Spiritual Care Association (SCA) in 2018. In the same year, he also trained as a Grief Recovery Method Specialist. In 2020, he specialized in Hospice and Palliative Care with additional training at the SCA. Ben has been a member of the board and the planning committee of the Beautiful Dying Expo since 2019.

Ben lives with his husband Sal in San Diego and enjoys cooking and baking and anything related to food.

About The Workshop:

Participant Objectives:

CE Instructions

All participants who wish to obtain CE credits or documentation services are required to do the following:

  •  Pre-register online and select that you wish to obtain continuing education credits

  • Indicate your profession and licensure

  • Provide your primary e-mail during registration. Attendees will need to scan in at each session. (NOTE: Your CEs will be automatically calculated according to the presentations you attend, and the length of your attendance.)

  • The number of CE credits available depends on the professional license, what you attend, and what has been approved according to the guidelines of the corresponding accrediting agency. Please note that some sessions may not be approved for CE credits for your professional license. The CE matrix will guide you on which profession has been approved for each session.

  • CE Certificate will be issued by email three weeks after the conference.

IVAT and Continuing Education

The Institute on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Institute on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma maintains responsibility for this continuing education program and its content. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) now accepts American Psychological Association continuing education credit for license renewal for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs, and LEPs. CE credits approved by California agencies are accepted in most states. The Institute on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma is approved by the California Board of Registered Nurses to offer continuing education for nurses (CEP #13737). The Institute on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma is approved by the State Bar of California to offer Minimum Continuing Legal Education for attorneys (#11600). The Institute on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma is approved by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAAP) to sponsor continuing education for certified alcohol and drug abuse counselors (Provider #IS-03-499-0223).
